The scientific project of the Olympic Games Observatory is structured around six research issues that intersect the organizational project submitted to the IOC and therefore make it possible to measure the overall impact of the Games. This division enables the Observatory to work on a set of multi-faceted indicators which will be followed up in a longitudinal way from the nomination of Paris until after the event. The aim is to propose a complete and exemplary assessment method which could be transposed at subsequent Olympic Games to make Paris 2024 an example in terms of evaluation and promote comparative analyses of the evolution of the areas concerned.

    1. ENVIRONNEMENTAL CHALLENGE : SUSTAINABLE GAMES

To what extent does the «green» candidacy of Paris translate into efforts and results on the air quality in the metropolis?

What is the impact of the development of little-or non-polluting mobility?

    2. ECONOMICAL CHALLENGE : THRIFTY AND PROFITABLE GAMES

What is the economic impact of the Olympics in terms of finance and jobs?

Profit calculation, benefits for all stakeholders, evaluation of the economic benefits of the event…

    3. SOCIAL CHALLENGE : INCLUSIVE GAMES

To what extent are the Olympics inclusive and allow for the participation of all parties?

How does the population (local, regional, national) receive the event and the territory project?

    4. SPORTS CHALLENGE : INFUSE SPORTS CULTURE

What is the impact of the event on sports practice (associative / outside sports organizations)?

How is the hosting of the event perceived in associations? What are the differentiated dynamics for disciplines that have reached the status of Olympic sports?

What are the development dynamics regarding sports facilities in the metropolis to allow everyone to access the practice of sport?

    5. TERRITORIAL AND URBAIN ISSUES : DEFINING A TERRITORIAL COMMON GOOD

Within the Paris metropolis, what are the urban projects to host the Olympics?

What are the specific effects of the event on the area of Seine-Saint-Denis which will host the Olympic Village and some major equipment?

What is the impact of the event on the real estate market?

What are the interrelationships between the Olympics and the extension of the city’s urban transport network (Grand Paris Express, extension of metro lines, etc.)?

What is the impact of the event on the structuring of the commercial offer?

    6. TOURISM ISSUE : A BOON FOR TOURISM

How to make the Paris Olympics a success that can also benefit tourist activities?

How to decrease the crowding-out effect and the substitution effect linked to the Olympic Games?

How to analyze mobilities linked to this kind of mega-events?

How to organize the co-presence of tourists of all kinds, residents and workers, reduce conflicts and potentiate complementarities?
